Specific anatomical features of the human eye
The human eye can be likened to a sphere. It has a central or visual axis from the apex of the corneal dome to the fundus of the eye, more precisely to the macula. Many intra-ocular structures can be thought of as circles or rings centred along the same axis. The iris is a disc which is pierced centrally (by the pupil). Similarly, the ciliary bodies can be thought of as a regular ring. Treatments for patients with glaucoma often need to be performed in order to treat the entire circumference of the eye, hence the need with laser for example to use 20 to 40 shots around the whole globe in order to be effective.
HIFU technology applied to ocular geometry
In order to avoid these multiple applications which are an occasional source of error and always lack reproducibility, EyeTechCare has designed a device with revolutionary geometry, enabling the entire circumference of the eye to be treated in a single procedure. This highly original technology incorporates miniaturised transducers in a ring shaped device which allows EYEOP1 to become the first Circular non-invasive treatment, offering very high precision, perfect repeatability from one patient to another and an extremely simple procedure resulting in very short treatment (1 minute).
The difference of miniaturisation
The transducers developed by EyeTechCare are amongst the smallest ever manufactured for therapeutic applications. This advanced miniaturisation has enabled EyeTechCare to produce a device compatible with the anatomy of the eye. EyeTechCare is advancing in the field of eye diseases. The first application for its technology has led to the EYEOP1 instrument which provides non-invasive treatment of refractory glaucoma.
